The collection includes stories about the first female Shakespearean professor at Yale and the challenges she faces as she attempts to deliver her first lecture to an all male auditorium of know it all students, a female Stanford student who hitchhiked to class in order to save money and the people she encounters while doing so, a con man who runs a car park near the zoo, and the lasting impression made upon a young student during a class trip to Germany after World War Two. There are other stories as well. All of them well-written.
Normally, I shy away from short story collections, but I found this one worth reading. I came away from it wanting to read more of Archer’s work. I think you will as well!
