The River of Doubt:Theodore Roosevelt’s Darkest Journey by Candice Millard is so well-written that I felt the author experienced the perilous journey through the Amazon jungle along with TR (Theodore Roosevelt) and his fellow explorers.
In this exciting non-fiction book, 55-year-old TR along with his son Kermit and the famous Brazilian explorer Candido Mariano da Silva Rondon explore a previously uncharted river deep in the Amazon jungle. They encounter many hardships including cannibal tribes, hordes of insects, snakes, impassable river rapids, murder, and starvation. TR becomes so close to death that he contemplates suicide.
I have always been fascinated by Teddy Roosevelt and have read other fine books about him. This book is incredibly interesting! I loved it and highly recommended it!
