9780062359988-1.jpg.jpgAnother Brooklyn by Jacqueline Woodson is an outstanding novel about a young, motherless African-American girl growing-up in Brooklyn during the 1970’s.

August is an innocent girl living in denial. After moving to a rough neighborhood from a peaceful country home in Tennessee with her father and younger brother, August keeps waiting for the day her mother will arrive and make their family whole again. The reality is, her mother is dead.

The novel follows August and the metamorphosis which occurs in her life during the years after her arrival in Brooklyn. The story follows the lives of August and her three closest friends and the effects the neighborhood has on the outcomes of their lives.

I love the way the author expresses her thoughts. It is beautifully written. I highly recommend this book. It is an unforgettable story to be read with your heart.
