lost-and-found-brooke-davis.jpgA seven-year-old named Millie Bird, is the heroine of Lost and Found by Australian author Brooke Davis. Millie’s father has died and soon afterward her mother takes her to the ladies underware department at the store. Instructing her daughter to wait for her, Millie’s mother promptly abandons her child. Having no reason to believe otherwise, Millie waits with her backpack and Journal of Dead Things under the underwear rack for her mother’s return.

Two elderly people enter her life, Karl and Agatha; both lost in ways of their own. Taking Millie under their broken wings, they help Millie search for her mother. Along the way, the widowed adults learn to embrace life once more.

I loved this quirky story. It is unlike any I have read. The richly unusual characters fascinated me.There is so much in this novel which prompted me to think about life and loss. When I got to the last page, I was all choked-up. This moving story is one I recommend highly.
