Here are some holiday gift suggestions for your favorite reader with best wishes for peace and happiness to you all!
The Journey of the Penguin by Emiliano Ponzi is a fabulously fun picture book which depicts the story of an Antarctic penguin as he travels to London where he becomes the mascot for the publishing company we know and love. The colorfully illustrated book is delightful and I had such fun searching for the penguin depicted in the pictures! I think you will enjoy this as much as I did!
The Further Adventures of Ebenezer Scrooge by Charlie Lovett is a delightful parody of the well-known book by Dickens. In this story, it is mid-summer and we find Scrooge wishing everyone a Merry Christmas a few years after his metamorphosis. Bob Cratchit is there, Scrooge’s nephew Freddie, and a few familiar ghosts reappear. This time around, it is Scrooge who shows others the errors of their ways.
I enjoyed this clever story, especially the many references to other Dicken’s novels. I am happy to add this book to my collection!
The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus by L. Frank Baum is a fun story about the life of Santa Claus. It begins with his youth in the forest of Burzee as an abandoned baby. The story progresses to Santa’s manhood in Laughing Valley and explains how and why he began to make toys for children. Baum writes about reindeer and Santa’s sleigh, chimney delivery of toys and offers explanations of just about every aspect of Santa and Christmas.
This story would make a great addition to anyone’s collection and a wonderful bedtime story to be shared with children of all ages!
The Lump of Coal by Lemony Snicket is a terrific book for art lovers. Sorry this is the story of a lump of coal who dreams of creating art and providing heat to cook Korean food! Only Lemony could dream this one up!
Dear Santa, Please Come to the 19th Floor by Yin and Chris Soentpiet is a story about a poor child who has lost not only the use of his legs, but his belief in Santa Claus as well. The story is touching and inspirational. The illustrations are so life-like, I couldn’t believe it!
La Noche Buena: A Christmas Story by Antonio Sacre is about a young girl of Cuban heritage who is sent to Miami to visit with her grandmother and father where she learns about the beauty of her Cuban culture and familial traditions.
