Miss Lillian

carterA Remarkable Mother by President Jimmy Carter provided inspirational reading for Mother’s Day this year.  Written in 2008, this short biography offers many insights into the life of our former President and the exceptional woman, Lillian Carter, who raised him.

Written in his unique southern voice, President Carter shares many memories of his mother and family and the ways Miss Lillian chose to live a life less ordinary.  I was surprised to read that Miss Lillian, a registered nurse, joined the Peace Corps at the at the age of 70 where she volunteered for two years in India.  How amazing!!! How admirable.

Surprisingly, I was unable to find another book written by a President solely about his mother.  I am glad I read this book and appreciate the love with which it was written.
