The Honey Thief by Najaf Mazari and Robert Hillman is a collection of folk stories from a member of the Hazara tribe in Afghanistan where stories are passed verbally from one generation to another as opposed to writing.
This is an interesting book. The stories in it emphasize the difficult lives of the Hazara people who have endured many hardships for countless years under domestic and foreign influence. Many of the stories are shocking and quite sad, but they provide a window into the soul of the Hazara people.
As an extra bonus, the book contains a recipe guide for readers who may wish to try Hazara cooking at home.
