The artful black and white cover of this high quality book is beautiful as are the reproductions inside of Don’s meticulous charcoal drawings of many well-known restaurants in Chicago.
What I really love about this book is, in addition to the phenomenal drawings of the exteriors of the restaurants, Bono has included personal interviews with the owners of the restaurants and interesting tales of lore. A section in the back of the book includes secret restaurant recipes for the reader to try at home.
Bono’s background in commercial real estate lends itself well to the book making his vivid descriptions of the restaurants and bars a joy to read. Clearly, Don loves food and you will too after reading his book. There are many restaurants and bars depicted in the book which are new to me, but after reading the book, I would love to visit them. The other thing I admire about this book is that Bono generously shares the story behind his art and the process of drawing with charcoal. It is enlightening!
The final portion of the book is filled with an art gallery of celebrity portraits by Bono which are incredible. After reading this book, I think you will agree Bono’s book is a treasure!
