Pick a Little, Talk A Little

The Adult Winter Reading program was recently launched at the library in our town and one of the recommended books caught my eye.  American Pickers Guide to Picking by Libby Callaway with Mike Wolfe, Frank Fritz and Danielle Colby.  The reason I grabbed the book is because my son and I are fans of the show by the same name on the History channel.  The reality television show follows two pickers from Iowa as they scour back roads of the U.S. looking for trash which they can turn into treasure.

I think it is a great show and Mike, Frank, and Danielle appear to be nice, friendly folks who love what they do.  The people they meet on the road are really interesting and the stories they have to tell about their lives and their “junk” are amazing.

Would I go into old barns and musty attics to unearth hidden treasure? Probably not, but I do enjoy watching other people do it!  The book is pretty much a printed version of the tv show, but it provides the reader with tips on picking and some history on the principle people on the show.

If you are someone who is interested in digging through piles of what others might consider junk, pick-up a copy of this book.  I think you will find a number of handy hints to help you along your way.
