My Kind of Town

It took me about 80 pages to catch the rhythm of this book, but once I did, I fell in love with it. Love and Shame and Love by Peter Orner is an unusual book and well worth reading.

The story bounces between four generations of a Jewish family who live in Chicago.  It covers many years in their lives and is so original that I thought it was great!

As a native Chicagoan, I loved and could relate to the many references to different locations around the city.  I especially appreciated the political references which span decades of former mayors in the Windy City.

This story resurrected many memories of my youth and many of the lines in it made me think about life and the city where I was born and raised.  It helped me to recognize the impact Chicago has had on my life.  Whether you are from Chicago or not, this is a book you must read.

Even better, the book is being made into a movie!  I can’t wait to see it!
