Coffee and Doughnuts

Doughnut Dollies is a lovely short novel by Helen Airy, an American, who served in England with the American Red Cross during World War II. While walking along an aisle of books in the library, the colorful picture on the cover of the book caught my eye.  I am happy it did because I enjoyed the story.

The fictional novel tells the story of a young woman who decides to do her bit for the war effort by joining the Red Cross after the loss of her fiance who was in the Air Force. The story follows the main character Lisa as she joins the Red Cross and throughout her service in England over the next few years.  It was a new view of the war for me and one I found interesting and touching.  I believe you will enjoy it as well.
